TORONTO, Ontario - Junior thrower Evan Karakolis represented Canada and Rice University proudly by finishing seventh in the men's javelin final on Friday afternoon at the 2015 Pan American Games.
Karakolis, a native of Scarborough, Ontario, set a new personal best with a throw of 75.09m (246-04 feet) inside CIBC Pan Am/Parapan Am Athletics Stadium. Seeded 12th out of 12 competitors entering the event, Karakolis improved upon his own school record (72.76m) set this past outdoor season by 7.5 feet.
The afternoon began with a throw of 72.16m on Karakolis' first attempt, followed by his monster throw of 75.09m. Trinidad and Tobago's Keshorn Walcott won gold with a throw of 83.27m, followed by USA's Riley Dolezal (81.62m) and Brazil's Julio Cesar De Oliveira (80.94m).
Earlier this month Karakolis placed second at the Canadian Championships in Edmonton with a mark of 72.80m.
