EDMONTON – Rice All-American thrower Evan Karakolis will be looking to earn a trip to the Olympic Games in Rio when he competes at the Canadian Championships and Rio Selection Trials this Friday at Foote Field in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
Karakolis, who just graduated from Rice in the spring with a degree in mechanical engineering, was fifth in the javelin at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in June, earning First-Team All-American honors. In addition, Karakolis broke his own school record in the javelin with a throw of 79.30m in April and was named an Academic All-American.
The Scarborough, Ontario native will throw on Friday, July 8 at 5:30 p.m. (CT) with the hopes of reaching the Olympic standard of 83m to qualify for Rio.
