EUGENE, OR – The U.S. Olympic Team Trials returns to the University of Oregon’s Hayward Field this week from June 30-July 10 where current and former Owls will be vying for Team USA selections for the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil.

Rice junior Scott Filip earned a trip to Eugene on the heels of winning the decathlon at the Pan American Combined Events Cup and will compete in the decathlon, July 2-3. Filip, from Bloomingdale, Ill., is one of nine collegiate athletes in the 18-athlete field. The All-American is seeded 16th with his 7,726 points accumulated earlier this month in Ottawa.

Former Owl and Olympian Funmi Jimoh (Rice, 2007) will look to earn her second career trip to the summer games when she competes in the long jump beginning on Friday at 7:10 p.m. (CT). Jimoh placed 12th at the Olympic Games in 2008 in Beijing. The Missouri City, Texas native is a five-time USA Outdoor bronze medalist and a three-time USA Indoor bronze medalist. Jimoh is seeded 11th (6.63m) heading into the weekend.

Another former Owl, Ariana Ince (Rice, 2011), will be competing in the javelin and is seeded fifth in the country with a mark of 59.68m. Ince will be in action on Saturday at 2:45 p.m. (CT) in the qualifying round. A native of Gonzales, Texas, Ince was a five-time C-USA pole vault champion while at Rice.

Former Owl Jason Colwick (Rice, 2010) will compete for a spot on the U.S. Olympic team in the pole vault. Colwick, who won the 2009 NCAA Indoor and Outdoor pole vault titles while at Rice, enters competition seeded 10th (5.67m). A native of San Marcos, Texas, Colwick begins competition on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. (CT).

The largest national championship track meet in the world, the U.S. Olympic Trials hosts more than 1,000 athletes as they compete for the right to represent Team USA at the Olympic Games.
