MONCTON, New Brunswick - Rice sophomore All-American thrower Evan Karakolis put the finishing touches on a superb season with a fourth place finish in the javelin at the 2014 Canadian Track & Field Championships Saturday evening.
A native of Scarborough, Ontario, Karakolis recorded the second-best throw of his career with a heave of 70.54m (231-0), just short of his school record mark of 70.80m set at the Virginia Challenge in May.
Last summer Karakolis won the Canadian Junior National Championship in the javelin.
In 2014 Karakolis placed seventh at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, won a C-USA Outdoor title and broke his own school record in the javelin with the throw of 70.80m at the Virginia Challenge. He was also named a Capital One Academic All-American and was named to both the CoSIDA Academic All-District 7 and C-USA All-Academic teams.
