Pillow Headed to USA Championships

Chris Pillow will compete in the pole vault at the USATF Championships on Saturday.

- Rice senior vaulter Chris Pillow will compete this weekend at the USATF Junior and Senior Championships, hosted by the University of Oregon at Historic Hayward Field.

Pillow is seeded 12th in his field (5.60m/18-4.50) and will compete in the pole vault this Saturday, June 27 at 1:50 p.m. (CT).

Competing at the senior level, Pillow will enter the meet with aspirations of earning a spot on the national team and representing the USA at the 2015 IAAF World Championships in Beijing, China from Aug. 22-30. The Mechanicsville, Virginia native will be aiming for a top three finish, along with meeting the qualifying standards, to secure a spot on the national team.

This season Pillow won C-USA titles during the indoor and outdoor campaigns and competed at the USATF Indoor Championships back in February, placing second overall where he was the top collegiate finisher.

In addition to Pillow, the Owls will also be represented by a pair of former Owls in current volunteer assistant Funmi Jimoh in the long jump (Saturday, 2:45 p.m.) and Ari Ince in the javelin (Friday, 9 p.m.)
