Eugene, Ore. - Former Rice Owl NCAA decathlon champion Ryan Harlan will be wearing the USA jersey in August at the IAAF World Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Harlan, with 8,011 points, placed second at the USA Outdoor Championship in the decathlon, held at famed Hayward Field.
Ashton Eaton won the multi-event with 8,729 points, while Clemson's Miller Moss was third (7,878 points). The top three places will represent the United States in Daegu, Korea (Aug. 27-Sept. 4) during the World Outdoor Championships.
Originally from Hewitt, Texas, Harlan now makes his home in Houston and still trains on the Rice campus. He won the 2004 NCAA decathlon title with a school record and personal-best 8,171 points.
