SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Rice junior decathlete Scott Filip concluded the final five events of the decathlon at the USATF Outdoor Championships on Friday, earning an additional 2738 points to finish 12th overall with 6972 points.
Filip, from Bloomingdale, Ill., entered the final day of competition in fourth place but a no height in the pole vault dropped him among the leaders. He opened the day with an eighth place finish in the 110m hurdles (14.94) while finishing ninth in the 1500m (4:47.23) to conclude the competition. Filip also placed 11th in the javelin (53.65m) and 14th in the discus (36.94m).
Rice will be represented in Sacramento two more times on Saturday with former vaulter Chris Pillow competing in the pole vault at 2 p.m. (CT) and freshman Matthew Murray running in the 1500m at the USATF Junior Championships (7:11 p.m. CT).
