Olson Academic All-America

Senior distance runner Brett Olson has been selected to the ESPN the Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-America squad for men's track and field and cross country. A native of Flower Mound, Texas, and Flower Mound High School, Olson earned second team accolades.

Olson sports a 3.95 grade point average (GPA) with a double major in mechanical engineering and civil engineering.

He earned the bronze at the Conference USA Outdoor Championship in the 3000m steeplechase (9:33.12) and he placed seventh in the 5000m (15:07.36) and eighth in 3000m (8:47.37) at the C-USA Indoor championship.

This is Olson's first national award. He was named to the 2007 and 2008 CoSIDA All-District VI team and he earned the 2007 and 2008 Rice Scholar Athlete award for men's track and Field. For the years 2007 and 2008, Olson was named as Rice University's Scholar Athlete of the Year.

Olson was named to the 2008 C-USA All-Academic Team for men's cross country, the 2007 and 2008 C-USA All-Academic Team for track & field, and he was a member of the 2006, 2007, and 2008 C-USA Academic Medal and Honor Roll (GPA above 3.75).
