HOUSTON – Rice junior Scott Filip was one of three athletes chosen to represent the United States in the 2016 Pan Am Cup, which will be held June 17-18 at the Terry Fox Athletics Facility at Mooney’s Bay in Ottawa.
The event, previously hosted by Ottawa in 2012-14, is a fixture on the IAAF World Combined Events Challenge Series and brings together the best heptathletes and decathletes in the western hemisphere. Joining Filip will be Michigan State’s Tim Ehrhardt and former Cal standout Michael Morrison.
“This is Scott’s first time to represent the USA in international competition and I’m really excited to see what the 2015 All-American can do after redshirting this last year,” Rice men’s track and field head coach Jon Warren said.
Filip, who redshirted the 2016 season, earned USTFCCCA First Team All-American honors after placing eighth in the decathlon at the 2015 NCAA Outdoor Championships. That performance came on the heels of a 14th place finish in the heptathlon at the NCAA Indoor Championships in which Filip claimed Second Team All-American accolades. Filip is a three-time C-USA champion, winning the C-USA Indoor heptathlon titles 2014-15 and the C-USA Outdoor decathlon in 2015.
