Fayetteville, Ark. -- Track and field athletes Philip Adam and Jason Colwick will represent Rice at the upcoming 88th NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship to be held in Fayetteville, Ark. and hosted by the University of Arkansas. Action takes place June 10-13 at John McDonnell Field.
Adam, a junior from Santa Maria, Calif., will compete in the decathlon. He won the Conference USA decathlon title with 7,331 points, which is the second-highest point total in Rice history. Ryan Harlan holds the school record with 8,171 points. This is Adam's first-ever NCAA Outdoor Championship experience.
The decathlon starts on Wednesday, June 10 (100m, long jump, shot put, high jump, and 400m) and concludes on Thursday, June 11 (110 hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin, and 1500m).
Colwick makes his second-straight appearance at the NCAA Outdoor Championship and he enters the meet as holder of the world's No. 2 mark for 2009 at 5.72m/18-9.25 set in winning the Texas Relays. He captured gold at the NCAA Midwest Regional title with a height of 5.56m/18-2.75. Colwick won the 2009 NCAA indoor title when he cleared 5.60m/18-4.5. He is a junior from San Marcos, Texas.
The pole vault event begins at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
