Track and Field Trio Named Academic All-District VI
Houston -- Three Rice University track and field athletes have been named to the ESPN the Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District VI team. Philip Adam and John Berens were selected to the first team, while Katie Dollinger was a second team selection. The trio were recently voted to the Conference USA All-Academic Team.
Adam, a senior from Santa Maria, Calif., is an economics major with a 3.95 grade point average. He will compete in the decathlon at the 2010 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship in Eugene, Ore. (June 9-12). Adam also ranks second all-time at Rice with 7,396 points in the decathlon.
Berens, sports a 4.00 gpa with a triple major in biochemistry, cell biology, and psychology. The Omaha, Neb. native, placed sixth in the triple jump at the 2010 Conference USA Outdoor Track & Field Championship.
Both Adam and Berens are now eligible to be named to the Academic All-America squad, of which they selected to the first team in 2009.
Dollinger, a senior from Gulf Breeze, Fla., has a 3.84 gpa majoring in mathematic economic analysis. She placed seventh in the hammer throw with a school record mark 53.00m/173-11 at the 2010 C-USA Outdoor Championship.
