Six Rice Men's Track and Field Athletes Named to C-USA All-Academic Team

Irving, Texas -- A Conference USA-high six Rice Owl men's track and field athletes have been named to the Conference USA Track & Field All-Academic Team as selected by the league's sports information directors for the sport. The all-academic team for track and field consists of student-athletes who have earned a 3.2 cumulative grade point average or better and are a key contributor to their team.

Rice senior John Berens and sophomore Dan Sloat reported perfect 4.0 GPAs for the men's team. Berens, a biochemistry, cell biology and psychology major, was selected to receive the 2010 NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship. The Omaha, Neb., native plans to attend medical school and was one of the Owls' top triple jump competitors. Sloat is a civil engineering student who earned bronze medalist honors at the C-USA Indoor Championship in the 800-meter run.

Decathlete Philip Adam, also earns All-Academic honors after claiming the 2010 C-USA decathlon title with 6,607 points. Adam, an economics major, sports a 3.95 GPA with a minor in business. He will compete at the 2010 NCAA Outdoor Championship (June 9-12) in Eugene, Ore.

Also on the C-USA All-Academic team are Gabe Cuadra, the 2010 10,000m C-USA champion, hurdler Connor Hayes, and thrower Will Meyers.
