Karakolis Earns Academic All-District 7 Honors

Rice junior Evan Karakolis was named a CoSIDA Academic All-District 7 selection on Friday.

HOUSTON, Texas
-- For a second straight year, Rice junior thrower Evan Karakolis was named to the CoSIDA All-Academic District 7 team, the organization announced on Friday.

The Scarborough, Ontario native boasts a 4.09 GPA while majoring in Mechanical Engineering and last year was named a CoSIDA Academic All-American. A two-time USTFCCCA All-Academic Team selection, Karakolis broke his own school record in the javelin with a winning throw of 72.76m at the Texas Southern Relays.

Karakolis was named the C-USA Outdoor Athlete of the Week (3/24) and had victories in the javelin at the Victor Lopez Classic (72.02m) and J. Fred Duckett Twilight (72.11m).

Karakolis, who will be competing at the NCAA West Prelims next week in Austin, Texas, is coming off a fourth place finish at the C-USA Outdoor Championships in the javelin with a throw of 66.92m.
