Owls in Fourth Place at C-USA Outdoor Track & Field Championship

At the Conference USA Outdoor Track and Field Championship, the Rice Owls currently sit in fourth place with 39 points after the second day of competition. UTEP leads with 70 points.

In the decathlon, three Owls placed in the top six with Phillip Adam leading the way with a second place finish. Adam completed the decathlon with 6,756 points to follow Houston's Wesley Bray (6,904 points). Connor Hayes placed fourth for Rice with 5,907 points, while Joe Agnew was sixth with 5,115 points. All told, the trio contributed 16 points towards the Rice team total and even better news is that all three are underclassmen. Adam and Agnew are sophomores, while Hayes is a freshman.

In the 3000m steeplechase, Brett Olson placed third with a time of 9:33.12, while Michael Trejo finished seventh (9:45.84) and Charles Hampton was eighth (10:01.42).

Senior Devon Fanfair placed eighth in the long jump at 6.90m/22-7.75. Clay Baker finished fourth in the shot put (16.28m/ 53-5.00.

In the javelin, Agnew placed sixth (56-60m/185-8), while Tyler Whitham finished eighth (50.43m/165-5).

Advancing to Saturday's finals in the running events are Gary Anderson (110m hurdles), Jon Turner (100m), Matthew Hoffman and Jacob Owolabi in the 800m.
