CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - In his final meet before the C-USA Outdoor Championships, Rice sophomore thrower Evan Karakolis broke his own school record in the javelin with a monster throw of 70.80m (232-3.00) to place second overall and first amongst all collegiate performers at the Virginia Challenge Saturday afternoon.
Karakolis, a native of Scarborough, Ontario, broke his own mark of 69.44m set last season at the TSU Relays. The new mark is now tops amongst all C-USA throwers, fifth in the West region and 15th in the nation.
The Owls will now prepare for the C-USA Outdoor Championships, which begin this Thursday at Rice.
