AUSTIN, Texas - Rice junior vaulter Chris Pillow made the most of a selected few Rice Owls that participated in the 87th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays on Thursday, placing second in the pole vault with a mark of 18-0.25 (5.50m).
Pillow's height tied former Owl great Dave Roberts and his 5.50 mark set in 1972 and is behind only Jason Colwick (5.72) for the school record. Kansas' Casey Bowen won Thursday's event by establishing the same mark in less attempts.
Freshman decathlete Scott Filip joined Pillow in competition on Thursday and placed 10th in the decathlon with an impressive 7045 points, finishing third in both the long jump (7.10m) and high jump (1.93m).
