Karakolis Named C-USA Athlete of the Week
March 24, 2015
IRVING, Texas - Rice junior thrower Evan Karakolis was selected the Conference USA Male Athlete of the Week on Tuesday, the league office announced.
An All-American from Scarborough, Ontario, Karakolis picked up right where he left off in 2014 with a school-record winning throw of 72.76m (238-08) in the javelin at the Texas Southern Relays. The junior broke his own school record of 70.80m set last season at the Virginia Challenge.
Karakolis' throw of 72.76m is currently ranked fifth-best in the nation and the victory was the third of his career and the first since winning at the C-USA Outdoor Championships.
This is Karakolis' first C-USA Athlete of the Week Award. The men's track and field squad will be competing at the Texas Relays this week, which lasts March 25-28 in Austin.
