March 7, 2009

Rice sophomore Will Meyers completed an indoor season of progress by setting a new personal record of 16.91m/55-5.75 to win the shot put title at the LSU Last Chance Invitational in Baton Rouge on Friday.

A sophomore from Sugarland (Austin HS), Meyers entered the 2009 campaign with a career best indoors of 14.48m/47-6.25, but shattered that with a throw of 15.95/52-4 at the Houston Invitational, then bettered that mark to 16.75/54-11.50 at the Texas A&M Invitational. The Rice indoor record is 17.52/57-5.75 set by Tim Vala in 1980.
