INDIANAPOLIS - The NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Track and Field and Cross Country Committee announced the participants that will compete in the 2018 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships late Tuesday, which includes Rice senior All-American Scott Filip in the heptathlon.
The championships will be held Mar. 9-10 in College Station, Texas, hosted by Texas A&M. ESPN3 will stream the meet live starting at 5:30 p.m. (CT) on Mar. 9 and starting at 4 p.m. (CT) on Mar. 10. A re-air of the championship will take place starting at 6 p.m. (CT) on Sunday, Mar. 11 on ESPN2.
Filip, who became the first-ever C-USA athlete to win a fourth indoor heptathlon title, is seeded ninth in the competition with his 5725 points earned in Birmingham, Alabama. This will be his second career appearance at the NCAA Indoor Championships, having previously competed in the heptathlon in 2015 when he placed 14th (4794 points), earning USTFCCCA Second-Team All-American honors.
Filip's first event will be the 60 meters dash on Mar. 9, beginning at 12 p.m., followed by the long jump (12:40 p.m.), shot put (1:50 p.m.) and high jump (3 p.m.). On day two (Mar. 10), Filip will compete in the 60m hurdles (12 p.m.), pole vault (12:50 p.m.) and 1000 meters (4 p.m.).
