IRVING, Texas - Rice senior vaulter Chris Pillow won his second consecutive Conference USA Male Field Athlete of the Week award, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.
Pillow improved upon his career-best vault set at the Texas A&M Invitational with a Houston Tune-Up record-breaking performance of 18-01.25 (5.52m) to win last Friday's pole vault competition. While earning his second straight pole vault victory, Pillow moved into a tie for the sixth-best mark (5.52m) in the nation.
The Mechanicsville, Virginia native cleared both the 5.42m and 5.52m vaults on his first attempt, defeating former two-time NCAA champion Jason Colwick (5.42m).
Pillow will next compete at the Virginia Tech Challenge on Saturday, followed by the C-USA Indoor Championships Feb. 25-26 in Birmingham, Alabama.
