Rice's Jason Colwick has picked up his third consecutive Conference USA Male Track & Field Athlete of the Week after setting his third school record in as many competitions.
Colwick, a junior from San Marcos, captured the pole vault title at the Texas A&M Invitational last Saturday in College Station with a vault of 5.61m/18-4.75, eclipsing his week-old effort of 5.60m/18-4.5 the week before in Lincoln, Nebraska. Colwick is the first pole vaulter in conference history to top the 18 foot mark indoors.
His vault leads the NCAA rankings, and ranks third overall in the nation and 17th in the world. This conference honor is the fourth of his career. In addition to his three consecutive awards this year, he was also named last year when he set the outdoor vaulting mark while winning the Texas Relays.
