Colwick Earns C-USA Honor for Second Consecutive Week

Feb. 10, 2009

Rice junior pole vaulter Jason Colwick has been named the Conference USA Male Track Athlete of the Week for the second consecutive week after vaulting to the top spot in the NCAA rankings.

Colwick shattered his week-old school record with a vault of 5.60/18-4 ½ to win the pole vault competition at the Frank Sevigne Invitational in Lincoln, Nebraska on Saturday. He became the first Owl to top 18 feet indoors, smashing his previous best of 5.40/17-8 ½ set at the Houston Invitational one week earlier. Colwick's vault currently leads the NCAA, ranks four in the United States and 15th in the world and is better than his outdoor record of 5.50/18-2 ½ set last season while winning the Texas Relays.

This is the third time he has been honored by C-USA with its weekly honor. He won the honor once last year during the outdoor season after his record jump at the Texas Relays as well as last week for his efforts at the Houston Invitational.
