Filip Named C-USA Male Field Athlete of the Week

IRVING, Texas – Rice senior All-American Scott Filip shined bright in his indoor debut and was recognized for his efforts by being named the Conference USA Male Field Athlete of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday (2/6/18).

Filip, from Bloomingdale, Ill., finished as the top collegiate competitor in the heptathlon this past weekend at the Charlie Thomas Invitational hosted by Texas A&M. Filip accumulated 5717 points, which ranks seventh in the nation and tops in C-USA. The three-time All-American won the 60m dash and 1000m race while finishing third in the shot put.

The men’s track & field team will compete this weekend at the Howie Ryan Invitational (Feb. 9) before setting their sights on the C-USA Indoor Championships, Feb. 17-18 in Birmingham, Ala.
