Chaney Captures Sevigne Heptathlon Title

Sophomore Clayton Chaney closed out a successful two-day run at the Frank Sevigne Classic by capturing the heptathlon title with a personal-best 5,204 points.

Chaney opened the second day's action by winning the 60 meter hurdles in a time of 8.40 seconds. He tied with Nebraska's Teran Walford in the pole vault with a mark of 4.15m/13-7 ¼ and then finished second to Walford with a 2:48.44 clocking in the 1,000 meters. Walford finished second with 5,091 points. Rice freshman Justin Gross finished sixth with 3,726 points after failing to register a height in the high jump on Friday and the pole vault on Saturday.
