Rice Men Make it a Sweep at Hilton Invite

The Rice men's indoor track team produced three individual winners on their way to capturing the team title at the Leonard Hilton Invitational at the Yeoman Fieldhouse at the University of Houston.

The Owls took the team title with 82.25 points, followed by UTSA (68.25) and ) Houston (65.25). The win by the men gave the Owls a sweep in the team races, with the Rice women taking the team title as well.

Rice picked up individual titles in the night's two longest running events, as well as in the shot and pole vault.

Senior Justin Maxwell won the first running event of the meet, taking the 5000m in 15:02.22 and fellow senior Simon Bucknell captured the mile in 4:16.18.

Sophomore Clay Baker won the shot put with a throw of 16.02m/52-06.75, while junior Chris Kato recorded a personal best of 4.75m/15-07.00 to finish as the top collegian in the pole vault.

Sophomore Ugo Nduaguba finished second in the triple jump (14.99m/49-02.25), while freshman Clayton Chaney finished third in the 60, hurdles (8.13).

Jon Warren's Owls will return to the Yeoman Fieldhouse in two weeks to compete in the Houston Invitational on January 31.
