Des Moines, Iowa - Rice senior track and field athlete Philip Adam placed 21st in the decathlon at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship held at Drake Stadium on the Drake University campus. Adam, from Santa Maria, Calif., scored 7,253 points, his third-highest total of the outdoor season. Below are Adam's results from Des Moines.

Long Jump - 22nd, 6.54m/21-5.5, 707 points
Shot Put - 5th, 13.68m/44-10.75, 709 points

This was his third appearance at the NCAA Outdoor Championship in the decathlon. In 2009, he tallied 7,358 points to finish 14th and in 2010 he scored 7,415 points in placing 10th and earning All-America status. He scored a personal best 7,514 points in winning his third Conference USA decathlon this year.
