HOUSTON, Texas - Junior Ben Pressley set a lifetime best with 6399 points in the men's decathlon to earn fourth place on day two of the Conference USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships Friday evening at Holloway Field and Ley Track.
Pressley, who earned five team points for the Owls, placed fifth in the 110m hurdles (15.68), sixth in the discus (30.89m), eighth in the pole vault (3.50m), fourth in the javelin (46.62m) and seventh in the 1500m run (5:01.76).
The Owls also had a strong showing in the 10,000m, where John Cavallo finished fourth (31:23.00) while Adam Davidson (31:30.80) and Meron Fessahaie (31:57.48) set personal bests by placing sixth and seventh, respectively. In total, the Rice distance runners earned a combined 10 points.
Rice will enter Saturday with 15 team points and in fourth place through three events. Competition will pick up again on Saturday beginning at 3 p.m. with the men's long jump.
