Men's Track & Field Places Third at C-USA Championship

C-USA Final Results

Tulsa, Okla. - The Rice Owls men's track and field team placed third for the second-straight year at the Conference USA Outdoor Track & Field Championship with 112 points. That point total is the second-highest by Rice since joining C-USA in 2006. Houston won the team title with 198 points.

In the 100m, freshman Sam McGuffie placed seventh with a season-fast time of 10.84. Also placing seventh was Jacob Owolabi in the 800m (1:55.87). Aaron Robson was sixth in the 1500m with a season-best time of 3:57.15. He also placed seventh in the 5000m with a Rice season-fast time of 14:56.55.

Connor Hayes and Clayton Chaney placed sixth and seventh respectively in the 110m hurdles. Hayes crossed the tape in 14.95, while Chaney, who also placed fourth in the decathlon finished at 20.99. Freshman Collin Shurbet was fifth in the 400m hurdles (53.82), while Hayes was sixth (54.53).

Rice's 4x400m relay team (Shurbet, Jordan Hmaidan, Dan Sloat, and Jacob Owolabi) placed fifth with a time of 3:16.37.

Ugo Nduaguba placed third in the triple jump with a season-best mark of 15.68m/51-5.5. John Berens was seventh (14.28m/46-10.25), while freshman Michael Izuchukwu was eighth (14.13m/46-4.25).

Clay Baker and William Meyers finished fifth and sixth in the shot put respectively. Baker's best of the day was 15.52m/50-11, while Meyers went 15.51m/50-10.75. Jack Spinks placed fourth in the high jump with a mark of 2.00m/6-6.75.
