HOUSTON, Texas - Rice sophomore Ben Pressley will enter Friday in fourth place in the men's decathlon after recording 3577 points on day one of the Conference USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Holloway Field and Ley Track.
Pressley, a native of Sherman, Texas, picked up a days-best 864 points by winning the long jump with a distance of 7.21m (23-08.00). Pressley began the day by placing second in the 100m dash with a PR time of 11.19, second only to freshman teammate Scott Filip.
Filip began the day on fire, winning the 100m dash with a PR time of 10.94, followed by another PR (12.90m) and first place finish in the shot put. However, Filip suffered a leg injury in the high jump and fell from first place to fifth by day's end.
The decathlon will start again on Friday beginning at 1:30 p.m. with the 110m hurdles, the first of five events.
The men's hammer throw will also take place Friday at 2 p.m. followed by the 10,000m run at 8 p.m.
