Houston - Rice had three runners place in the top eight in the 3000m steeplechase at the 2011 C-USA Outdoor Track and Field Championship at Rice's Holloway Field and Ley Track. James llamas placed third with season-best time of 9:19.09. Travis Roberts posted a season-fast time of 9:33.59 to finish sixth, while fellow freshman Wyatt Doop was eighth (9:52.49).

The Owls are in third place with 42 points heading into Sunday's finals. Houston leads with 58 points, while Tulsa follows with 49 points.

In the long jump the Owls placed two in the top eight. Freshman Justin Gross was fifth at (7.33m/24-0.75), while senior Ugo Nduaguba finished eighth with a season-best mark of 7.28m/23-10.75.

Donte Moore qualified for the 200m final on Sunday with a prelim time of 21.37. Moore was third in heat three. In the 800m, Rice's two competitors, Dan Sloat (1:51.92) and Alex Weinheimer (1:52.32) both qualified for Sunday's final.

Connor Hayes qualified for the 110m hurdles final with a prelim time of 14.67, placing third in heat one. In the 400m hurdles prelim, Collin Shurbet (52.77) and Lee Johnson (53.39), qualified for Sunday's final.
