LOS ANGELES, CA - In the Owls final meet before next week's C-USA Outdoor Championships, senior vaulter Chris Pillow led the way by winning his 18th career pole vault competition with a C-USA leading vault of 5.40m (17-08.50) at Saturday's Oxy Invite. Pillow earned his second victory of the outdoor season by clearing 5.40m on his second attempt, a mark good enough for top 11 in the nation.
Pillow was one of four Owls who finished in the top three on the day. Rice dominated the hammer throw with Duncan Dickerson placing second (61.51m, 01-10) while sophomore Austin Riddle finished third in the event with a lifetime best throw of 59.01m (193-07). Freshman Patrick McCoy earned a third place finish in the triple jump with a season-best mark of 14.13m (46-04.25).
Other highlights on the day included fourth places finishes by Ben Pressley in the long jump (7.18m, season-best) and Filip Drozdowski in the 110m hurdles (14.60).
The Owls will now set their eyes on the C-USA Outdoor Championships, which take place May 14-17 in El Paso.
