Fayetteville, Ark. - The Rice men's track and field team shined in its final meet prior to next week's Conference USA Championship at the Arkansas Twilight Friday night.
In the discus, Alexander Zinchenko placed fifth in the discus with a mark of 48.91m/160-5. Placing fifth and sixth respectively in the high jump were Jack Spinks and Tyler Wiest. Each cleared a season-high 2.02m/6-7.5.
In the 100m, Will Beasley ran a season-fast 10.86 in placing 11th and he also ran a season-best 22.21 in the 200m. Jordan Hmaidan was 12th in the 400m with season-best 49.20. Placing ninth in the 800m was Dan Sloat with a time of 1:53.18.
"In the second round of the pre-conference tune-up meets we made some very positive steps," said Owl head Jon Warren. "Clayton Chaney flew in the 110 prelims, John Cavallo posted a personal-best in winning his 1500m heat. Will Beasley ran both the fastest 100 and 200 in his life and we saw great things from Will Firth, Lee Johnson and Dan Sloat in their respective events. It is a good step towards next week at the Conference USA Championship."
The Conference USA Outdoor Championship, hosted by Tulane University, takes place May 11-13 at Tad Gormley Stadium in New Orleans.
