Nick Williams broke his own school record to lead a strong men's track performance at the Sam Houston Twilight on Thursday, the squad's last tuneup before the C-USA Championships at Rice from May 9-12.
Williams threw 53.16 m, breaking his mark of 51.86, which he set in April at UTEP.
Chris Pillow continued his strong season in the pole vault, clearing 5.10 meters to win the event.
Tyler Weist jumped 1.95 m, the highest clearance by a collegian in the high jump.
Clayton Chaney finished in second in the 100 m hurdles, and threw 40.35 m in the discus as he prepares for the C-USA Championship Decathlon on May 9-10 at Rice.
Alex Zinchenko posted two top four finishes, throwing 49.33 m and coming in second in the discus, and throwing 15.92 m for a fourth place showing in the shot put.
The Owls return to the track on May 9, as the C-USA Championships get underway at Rice's Ley Track/Holloway Field.
