HOUSTON, Texas - The Rice Owls men's track and field team posted five, top-three finishes at Saturday's 11th annual J. Fred Duckett Twilight Meet, the final competition before the C-USA Championships in two weeks.
Evan Karakolis continued a strong outdoor campaign with a second place finish in the javelin, recording a mark of 68.21m (223-09). Later in the evening Griffin Lee and Wyatt Doop placed third and fourth overall, respectively, in the 3,000m steeplechase but Lee's time was first overall collegiately and Doop's was second.
William Roberts, coming off a win last weekend, set a PR and team season-best time of 3:47.15 in the 1500m run to place fourth overall and second amongst collegiate athletes. Alex Weinheimer also set both a team season best and PR in the 800m, placing fourth amongst all collegiate runners with a time of 1:49.97.
Filip Drozdowski placed fourth overall, but was second collegiately, in the 110 hurdles with a 14.31.
As a team Rice defeated Houston Baptist, 75-54.
The Owls will now have a full two weeks to prepare for the C-USA Championships, which for a second straight season will be held at Rice. The meet will run May 15-18 at Holloway Field/Ley Track.
