LAWRENCE, Kan. - Freshman distance runner William Roberts won his first collegiate outdoor race of his Rice career with a time of 3:56.76 in the 1500m run at Saturday's Kansas Relays to highlight a successful afternoon for the Owls.

Roberts, who had won two indoor events, defeated Iowa Central's Dylan Eigenberger (3:58.08) to give the Owls six, top-five finishes on the afternoon.

Chris Pillow continued his stellar campaign with a second place finish in the pole vault with a height of 5.36m (17-7.00). 

The Owls also sent a handful of athletes to the UTSA Invite in San Antonio where freshman Joseph Akinosho set a team season0best and a PR in the triple jump with a distance of 13.59m (44-07.00) to place fifth.

Rice will next be back in action on Saturday, April 26 when they host the J. Fred Duckett Twilight beginning at 12 p.m.
