EL PASO, Texas - The Rice Owls men's track and field squad won three individual events at Saturday's UTEP Invitational, including a victory in the 110m hurdles by sophomore Filip Drozdowski.
A native of Torun, Poland, Drozdowski set a personal-best time of 14.13 and in the process moved to the top of the Conference USA 110m hurdles list. Joining Drozdowski in the victory circle included fellow sophomore Vitali Bilenko, who earned his first collegiate win in the pole vault with a lifetime best mark of 4.92m (16-01.75). Bilenko, from Winnipeg, Manitoba, moved into second place in the league in the pole vault with his winning mark.
The third victory by the Owls was accomplished by thrower Duncan Dickerson, who won his third hammer throw event of the outdoor season with a heave of 61.57m (202-00). Austin Riddle placed second (57.05m) in the same event and was also the runner-up in the discus (47.62m).
Rice All-American Evan Karakolis closed the day with a second place finish in the javelin with a day's-best throw of 67.25m.
The Owls will compete next at the J. Fred Duckett Twilight Invitational next Saturday, April 25.
