LAWRENCE, Kan. - Rice sophomore thrower Evan Karakolis placed fourth in the men's javelin Friday afternoon at the Kansas Relays, recording the top collegiate mark (66.02m) to lead the Owls on day two of the 87th annual meet.
Karakolis performed his best throw of the afternoon on his last attempt to place fourth behind Tim Glover (Unattached-76.65m), Matt Byers (Shocker Trac-70.45m) and Reinhard Van Zyl (Cloud County-68.18m).
Rice had a pair of second place finishes, including Filip Drozdowski's 14.33 finish in the 110m hurdles and a second place finish by the distance medley relay team of Alex Weinheimer, Scott Filip, Zach Watterson and William Roberts.
The Owls will finish action tomorrow at the Rock Chalk Park track facility before returning home to compete at the J. Fred Duckett Twilight next Saturday at Holloway Field/Ley Track.
