HOUSTONDane Stolsig and Reagan Olguin each recorded individual victories to highlight the Rice Owls men’s track & field split squad performance at Saturday’s UH Alumni Invitational.

Stolsig, a redshirt freshman from Pensacola, Fla., won his first career collegiate event with a personal best winning throw of 57.36m (188-02) in the javelin, which ranks seventh in C-USA.

Olguin, a sophomore from Edinburg, Texas, led a strong Owls’ performance in the 800m with a winning time of 1:52.59. In the same event, William Roberts placed second overall with a season-best mark of 1:52.57 while Matthew Murray finished third among collegiate runners in 1:54.55.

In the hammer throw, Michael Yow and Matt Garcia placed second and third, respectively. Yow set a personal best with a throw of 57.46m (188-06) while Garcia finished third with a personal best heave of 56.69m (186-00).

The Owls also got a third place finish from Filip Drozdowski (14.61) in the 110m hurdles.

Rice will next be in action next weekend when they partake in the Texas Invitational in Austin, April 14-15.
