Cavallo & Cuadra's 1-2 5k Finish Highlights Big Day For Men's Track
Owls Take Top Two Spots In 5,000 Meter Race

NACOGDOCHES, Texas- John Cavallo and Gabe Cuadra finished 1-2 in the 5,000 meter race, to lead Rice's men's track team at the Skechers-SFA Alumni Invitational at the Fletcher Garner Track. Cavallo crossed the line in 14:34.33, while Cuadra clocked in at 14:36.52.
"We got a lot done today that was very positive," said Rice Head Coach Jon Warren. "All in all, it was a very good day for us."
Chris Pillow won the pole vault, clearing 5.11 meters to take the event.
Harry Sagel also picked up a victory, winning the 800 meter run in 1:51.64, a full two seconds in front of the next-closest collegian.
Alex Zinchenko had the highest mark among Division I discus throwers, tossing the discus 50.41 meters, and finished 5th in the shot put with a throw of 15.77 meters.
Tyler Wiest finished fourth in the high jump, clearing exactly 2.00 meters.
Additionally, Chris Sanders was in action at the Sam Adams Combined Events in Santa Barbara, Calif., posting a 6,666 in the decathlon to finish second among collegians in the meet.
