Doop Wins Steeplechase At Victor Lopez
Cavallo, Firth posts strong performances in 5000m

HOUSTON, Texas – After nearly an hour weather delay, the Rice men’s track and field team took part in three events on the second day of the Victor Lopez Classic at the Holloway Field and Ley Track.
Junior distance runner Wyatt Doop had the top performance of the evening, winning the 3000m steeplechase with a new personal best time of 9:17.09. Senior teammate Travis Roberts placed third in the steeplechase in a time of 9:34.04.
Senior John Cavallo (14:45.39) and junior Will Firth (14:46.18) placed third and fourth, respectively, in the 5000m run.
The Owls were also represented Friday evening in Austin at the Texas Relays by sophomore Evan Karakolis, who placed fifth (collegiately) in the javelin with a distance of 69.12m (226-9), just shy of his lifetime best mark of 69.44m.
Rice will be back in action tomorrow beginning at 11 a.m. with the shot put.
