HOUSTON, Texas - Sophomore Harry Sagel led a pack of Rice Owls in the 1500m run to win at Saturday's TSU Relays. Sagel finished with a winning time of 3:57.06, followed by teammates Alex Weinheimer (2nd-3:57.24), William Roberts (3rd-3:57.50), Travis Roberts (4th-3:58.04) and Meron Fessahaie (6th-3:58.91).
Redshirt freshman Filip Drozdowski improved from his 14.90 qualifying time to place fourth in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.34. Freshman thrower Grant George was the other Owl in action, finishing fifth in the discus with a throw of 43.49m.
"This was a really good intro weekend to the outdoor season," Rice men's track and field head coach Jon Warren said. "It was Filip Drozdowksi's first 110 hurdle race in two years and it went really well. We had a good performance yesterday from Evan Karakolis, as well as some good performances in the vault and throws. The most fun part was the 1500 where Rice finished with the top three collegiate finishes. It was a great way to get ready for the Lopez Classic next week."
