Clayton Chaney posted a 7,598 in the decathlon, moving into second on Rice's all-time decathlon performers list, to win the Shirley Crowe Multi Events at Holloway Field/Ley Track. Teammate Chris Sanders finished fourth in the event.
"This is an excellent score for Clayton," said Rice Head Coach Jon Warren. "This mark will almost certainly be one of the top 20 in the nation by year's end and qualify him for the NCAA Championships."
Sanders' 6,777 also marks a personal-best, finished only 21 points out of third place. Sanders led the javelin throw with a toss of 54.77 m, adding 659 points to his total.
Chaney and Sanders finished 1-2 in the 110 m hurdles, with times of 14.78 and 15.03 respectively. Chaney led the pole vault, clearing 4.35 m.
The Owls compete again starting on Friday, March 22, when the collegiate portion of the Victor Lopez Classic begins.
