HOUSTON
- Rice senior distance runner Will Firth led a small contingent of Owls competitors on the final day of the TSU Relays Saturday afternoon.

The Peoria, Ariz. native placed second collegiately (fourth overall) in the 1500m (3:58.36) and finished third collegiately (fifth overall) in the 800m (1:56.43). Firth was competing in his first career 800m race and his first 1500m since his freshman season.

Firth's teammates Marco Ruiz and David Diaz also finished third and fourth collegiately, respectively, posting times of 4:00.34 and 4:00.35.

"Today was a great day for Will," Rice men's T&F head coach Jon Warren said. "Overall this was a solid weekend for us to kickstart the outdoor season. Now we gear up for the Victor Lopez, which is very exciting and will be one of the biggest meets we've held."

In the throws sophomore Uche Ugwunze backed up a strong performance on Friday by placing fourth overall in the shot put (15.54m).

The Owls now gear up for the Victor Lopez Classic, which runs March 24-26 at Wendel D. Ley Track.
