Owls Complete Day One Of Shirley Crowe
Competition begins again at noon Thursday

HOUSTON, Texas – Rice junior Ben Pressley sits in fourth place in the men’s decathlon following day one of the Shirley Crowe Combined Events outdoor season opener Wednesday at the Holloway Field and Ley Track.
Pressley and Scott Filip were the lone Owl competitors along with a handful of athletes from UT Arlington and Wichita State. Pressley’s day was highlighted by a second place finish in both the long jump (7.20m) and 400 meter dash (50.46). Filip, who was making his outdoor debut, won the 100 meter dash in a time of 10.95 and placed third in the shot put with a distance of 12.28m, before withdrawing due to sickness.
Competition gets going again on Thursday beginning at 12 p.m. The decathlon will pick up with the 110 meter hurdles, followed by the discus, pole vault and 1500 meter run. The heptathlon will kick things off beginning with the long, followed by the javelin and 800 meter run.
