HOUSTON - Following a successful outdoor opener at the UH Cougar Spring Break Invitational on Thursday, the Rice Owls men's track & field squad sent a handful of athletes to compete at this weekend's TSU Relays.
On Friday Uche Ugwunze led a group of three Owls throwing the shot put, finishing second overall with a mark of 15.31m (50-02.75). Michael Yow (6th-13.56m) and Dane Stolsig (9th-12.81m) also competed in the event.
Rice had eight athletes run in Saturday's 1500m and the Owls dominated the field. William Roberts won the event in a time of 3:55.31 to claim the No. 2 mark in the early C-USA outdoor season while Matthew Murray placed second (3:57.23). Matt Calem placed third overall (3:58.36) while Reagan Olguin set a personal best time of 4:03.79 to place sixth.
The Owls will be back in action next weekend when they host the Victor Lopez Classic from March 24-25.
