Day One Results
HOUSTON, Texas - Rice redshirt junior Chris Sanders will enter day two of the Rice Shirley Crowe Multi-Events in first place of the decathlon after collecting 3675 points Tuesday afternoon at Wendel D. Ley Track and Holloway Field.
The field consists of 16 athletes from McNeese State, Rice, Stephen F. Austin, Texas A&M and Wichita State.
Sanders won the high jump (1.97m) and finished third in both the shot put (12.40m) and long jump (6.94m). The Santa Rosa Beach, Florida native also set a personal best time in the 400m, 52.05, picking up 723 points in the event.
Sanders holds a 29 points edge over second place Daniel Martin of Texas A&M with five more events to go on Wednesday. Rice freshman Charlie Card-Childers is in fifth place with 3527 points, and placed second in the high jump (1.94m).
Day two of competition will begin Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. starting with the 110m hurdles.
