TSU Relays Results

Houston - The Rice Owls men's track and field squad in the first weekend of outdoor completion turned in excellent times and marks on the first day of the TSU Relays, hosted by Texas Southern University.

Head coach Jon Warren was pleased with his charges' efforts on the first day of action.

"The first day was strong and we are running a limited team this weekend, but those who competed have done very well," commented Warren. "Collin Shurbet had his best opener of his career and Clayton Chaney was very impressive with a big personal best. Also, Nick Williams had a great day with a personal best and a high finish. We still have a few big events tomorrow highlighted by the high jump, the discus, the 1500 and 4x400."

Junior Clayton Chaney won the javelin mark with distance of 57.21m/187-8. Chaney's teammate, Jack Spinks finished fourth at 50.36m/165-3.

In the 400m hurdles, the Owl duo of Collin Shurbet and Lee Johnson were among the top eight finishers. Shurbet placed third with a time of 53.23, while Johnson ran eighth (55.82).

Nick Williams, in the hammer throw, was impressive with a third-place distance of 46.53m/152-8.
