Day One Results
HOUSTON – Rice redshirt junior Colton Torrance set four PR’s to grab a first day lead in the men’s decathlon at the Shirley Crowe Combined Events meet Tuesday afternoon at Wendel D. Ley Track.
Torrance, from Houston (Clear Lake HS), earned 3854 points through five events and won the 400m dash and long jump. Torrance set PR’s in the 100m dash (2nd-10.90), 400m dash (1st-48.98), long jump (1st-7.11m) and shot put (11.88m) while tying a PR in the high jump (3rd-1.85m).
Rice redshirt sophomore Charlie Card-Childers also had a strong performance on Tuesday, claiming 3721 points and will enter Wednesday in second place. The Houston native won the high jump with a height of 2.03m and placed second in the shot put (13.32m).
Emerson Schulz (7th-3113 points), Adam Bender (8th-2814 points) and Scott Filip (10th-1626 points) also competed in the season opener on Tuesday.
On the women’s side, freshman Zinedine Russell was the Owls’ lone competitor and the Kingston, Jamaica native earned 2768 points over four events to enter Wednesday in second place. Russell won the 100m hurdles (14.85) while placing fourth in both the high jump (1.58m) and 200m dash (27.28).
