Clayton Chaney repeated as C-USA Indoor Heptathlon Champion, which led the Owls in the second and final day of the C-USA Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
"We had a few guys do well, but not enough of them," said Rice Head Coach Jon Warren. "Luckily we don't have to wait another year to get back at it, as our primary goal is the outdoor season, which starts soon."
Chaney won the event for the second consecutive year with a score of 5,463, nearly 100 points better than the second-placed finisher. Rice's Chris Sanders, posted a season-best 5,013 in the heptathlon, coming in third.
Chris Pillow cleared 5.27 m in the pole vault, which gave him a second-place finish. Pillow tied with two Memphis athletes for first, and the tie was settled via a jump-off. Pillow vaults again next week in an attempt to qualify for the NCAA meet.
Alex Zinchenko threw 16.29 m in the shot put, finishing fifth.
