COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- Just seven days after breaking the Rice record in the weight throw, sophomore thrower Austin Riddle re-broke his own mark with a distance of 17.72m (58-1.75).

The Houston (Memorial HS) native placed second overall in the event to lead the Owls on the final day of the Charlie Thomas Invitational hosted by Texas A&M, earning eight points himself. Only Abilene Christian's Jelani Rainey (18.07m) had a better throw than Riddle, whose mark now ranks third amongst all C-USA competitors this season.

Riddle previously broke the Rice weight throw record on Jan. 29 at the Houston Invitational, besting Duncan Dickerson's previous record of 17.32m with a second place throw of 17.57m.

Other highlights from the Owls on Saturday included a ninth place finish from Marco Ruiz in the 3000m (8:32.16) and a 10th place finish (4:16.7) from William Roberts in the mile.

As a team Rice placed 10th out of 11 teams overall with 28 points.
